Story behind the song
Like millions of us, my wife was distraught over the events of 9/11. The next morning she woke me up to tell me about a dream she had just had. Then she corrected herself to say it was more like a vision. She was in a little church when she noticed him looking at her. He had dark wavy hair and penetrating eyes and a warm smile. The next thing she knew a hand touched her on the shoulder. She reached back to touch the hand. It was the rough hand of a carpenter, the carpenter from Galilee. An overwhelming sense of peace and comfort came over her and she knew everything was going to be all right.
Lyrics
The Night - Words and music by Michael David Miller (c) Copyright 2002, Michael David Miller I couldn’t sleep – it was late at night; The cares of this old world were giving me a fright. So I turned to Jesus as I often do; Imagine my surprise to find Him standing in the room. Foolish me, all I could do was stare At the rugged face, the dancing eyes, and wavy hair. He just smiled and held His arms open wide, The Night I looked into my Savior’s eyes. Wasn’t quite the image I expected to see; His weary face bore lines of pain and agony. His fiery eyes saw deep inside of me And I realized His pain was caused by all the sin in me. All at once He stood before The Throne He washed my sins in His own blood and now they’re gone. He just smiled and held His arms open wide, The Night I looked into my Savior’s eyes. Ever since that night my life has never been the same. I am drawn into His love like a moth is to a flame. All the worries of this world Are just like vapors in a swirl - They just float away, They just float away. Now I can sleep almost every night ‘Cause you see I know everything’s gonna be alright. I turn to Jesus, and I always do, And crawl into His arms and fall asleep. Each night I crawl into His arms and fall asleep.
