Water Falls is a piano only composition that was recorded on the spot in a very reverbrant room with only a pair of stereo microphones. There was a fountain right outside the auditorium and thus the name.

Music... My entire life, music has been the "driving force" in everything that I've done. I started taking piano lessons at the age of 6, played in bands all through high school, graduated with a degree in piano from college, and all the while learned as much as I could about the recording studio by working as a session musician and learning the art of recording. To me, music can be visualized by colors. Every sound that you hear has a particular color attached to it and likewise, so does every emotion. That's what I'm attempting to capture in my music. I want to take emotions that are a part of one's natural life and "paint" a picture into my musical landscapes. Before I write a song, I name it. That name is a "hint" as to what I was thinking of. Then the sounds that I used, the melody, the counter-melodies, rhythms, etc. are all part of the final scene. I hope you enjoy my attempts at capturing an emotion for a moment in time....

Story behind the song
I was going to be recording an orchestra program but prior to going into the auditorium, I had a friend who had agreed to "push the buttons" on the DAT machine for me that day. We were outside, (waiting on the doors to be unlocked),just talking about the fountain and how the water was constanting circulating much like a real waterfall. He laughed and said that this fountain only proved that water falls, unlike a natural waterfall. I liked the idea and that gave me a reason to write the song in 5/4 time and alternate between 6/8 and 3/4 time. It made me think about the way that water doesn't really have any kind of time element to it. It just flows... I hope you like it, even with the really large amount of reverb. The microphones were way back into the room approximately about 35 feet from the stage and the ceiling height was close to 55 feet so the natural ambience of the room was impossible to escape with the 30 minutes of allotted time that we had. This was a "quick capture" since I was making recordings of stereo mics from various distances to "hear" how the room sounded, i.e. (close, mid-room & far). Since, I played the tune that I wrote from the "far distance", that's the reason for the large amount of reverb. FYI, I used multiple pairs of stereo microphones that were plugged into a mixer in a room actually outsde of the concert hall where I actually utilized16 microphones (8 stereo pairs) of mics to blend the balance of the orchestral sound...
