'I fry up some Zoloft felafel when they say I need some rest. It picks me up when I feel low, but you're the reason why. Half the world's on Zoloft, so why not you and I?'

Story behind the song
I wrote this song after reading, "Listening to Prozac." This performance was in September 1998, with my first rock band, "Free Beer," at a concert in Bryn Mawr College.

Lyrics
Caffeine, nicotine, I pump my adrenaline
with phenylethylamphetamine [chocolate] and still they call me clean.
So many chemicals, but only you get me high.
Half the world's on Prozac, so why not you and I?
Working in a Greek diner, my pita bread's the best.
I fry up some Zoloft falafel when they say I need some rest.
It picks me up when I feel low, but you're the reason why.
Half the world's on Zoloft, so why not you and I?
The voices in my head get so hard to understand.
The only peace I find is in the pressure of your hand.
I'm the wheel and you're the axle. Turn me towards the sky.
Half the world's on Paxil, so why not you and I?
Albert Einstein was a scatterbrain. He couldn't concentrate.
Then he discovered Ritalin. Now he's got a great
job as a patent clerk, working nine to five.
Half the world's on Ritalin, so why not you and I?
Prozac, Paxil, Maalox, Quaaludes, with each new drug I try
my sex drive goes the way of my dough: out the window. Sigh
all you like about never knowing which new personality I'll buy
but half the world's on Rent-A-Mind, so why not you and I?
Our Founding Fathers struggled so our minds would be free
but now doctors, teachers, and insurance companies all agree
that we'll feel much better once our chemistry's been changed
but with half our youth on drugs, why do we still feel so strange?
