Imagine being ushered into the presence of God by a voice so sweet and sincere, that you can feel His presence hovering, moving, blessing. If you are ever in a place where Sharon Shaw is ministering, you better believe at that moment, you are in the presence of the Lord. Born and raised in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York, and affectionately referred to as the “princess” Sharon Elaine Shaw grew up heavily influenced by jazz, blues and R&B. Because of her unique ability to move people with her voice, Sharon knew from an early age that she was destined to be a singer. Her love for singing would soon bring her to the stage of the infamous Apollo Theatre where she participated in the “amateur night” competitions. It was during one of these competitions that she was spotted by the manager of an R&B group--Flyte. Upon meeting with the group, Sharon was offered the opportunity to become one of their lead singers and seeing this as an opportunity of a lifetime, Sharon decided to pursue her career and accepted the offer. However, shortly after joining Flyte, Sharon found herself listening to Aretha Franklin’s “Give Yourself to Jesus” and was so moved in her spirit that she did exactly that and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. From that moment Sharon made a vow to God to sing only Gospel music. “When the Lord saved me, I thought my music career was over and I lost a little bit of my desire to sing professionally because I had no idea at the time that there was an industry for Gospel music,” says Sharon. “But as I began to sing at various events I was so well received that I regained my desire to sing professionally and more passionately than before.” When listening to Ms. Shaw minister in song, it is evident that her childhood influences of jazz and rythym and blues are prominent in her singing. She credits this as to what makes her voice and style so unique. “Jazz music as well as R&B are genres of music that come directly from one’s soul,” says Ms. Shaw. “When we are singing about the ‘Lover of our souls’ what better genres could there be to incorporate into the heartfelt music of gospel?” Ms. Shaw hopes to be well received by those to whom she ministers. “I would like to be received with open arms and for my audience to be receptive to the style and ministry that God has given me to share with them,” states Sharon about her unique ministry. “I want them to have an experience with the Lord through my music, and experience His manifest presence.” Sharon has recorded with the Brooklyn Tabernacle Deliverance Center’s Mass Choir on “Songs of Deliverance,” as well as with the late Ray Harper and the Reign With Him Ensemble. She has ministered at New York’s Hallelujah’s Gospel Supper Club, Justin’s, Holy Ground’s Gospel Vineyard, Good Day New York and was a featured performer at the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA). She has served as a chief worship leader for Daughters of Zion Int’l Ministries, Inc. (WFC) annual regional conferences as well as at her former church. Sharon also hosted and was a regular performer on “Lifting Him Higher” a local cable television show. With all of this under her belt the time is ripe for the release of her solo project, All About You. With this project we can expect to experience her prolific songwriting and hear a little sumthin’ sumthin’ to help us get our praise on like the flavorful “Bounce” and be ushered into God’s presence through the title cut “All About You” (Praise Prelude) and feel the unstoppable love of God with the R&B tinged “Totally.” To date Sharon continues to minister through song locally and abroad as well as to write songs that lift up the Lord and encourage the body of Christ. Sharon E. Shaw still resides in Bedford- Stuyvesant and is an active member at The Church of God of East New York, where her Pastor is Reverend Clifton McDowell, Sr.
