Story behind the song
It seems like only yesterday.. but it has now been 3 years since I first became aquinted with music on the internet.
I soon became addicted.. and became close to many other artist. Some I have met in person, others, I have chatted with almost daily.
At heart, I am a very warm loving person.. I become attached very easily.
I also promise things sometimes I can't produce.. mostly due... I must admit, to laziness.. but also.. so much of the technical world is foreign to me.
I wanted to write a song that expressed my feelings towards those who have touched my life. I wrote out a list of about 200 artist.. and soon realized, I wouldn't be able to say everyones name in a song.. The names I did use.. some are very dear.. some just worked out. I don't mean to exclude anyone... you are in my heart always.
I approached the song by saying to myself.. keep it acoustic.. keep it simple.
That worked out well.
My vocals were weak.. I kept choking up............... and said to hell with it.
I left out the harmonies on purpose.. I always liked it when I could create my own harmonies to songs.. I could envision folks sitting at the computer singing along. My guitar solo.. in my opinion.. is the best and most emotional solo, I have ever recorded.. but then again.. I'm not a guitar player.
The end of the song finishes up with a riff I stole from Mad Seasons..that song represents everything I used to be.. it is probably my favorite song of all times.
As I walk away from the get together.. I turn around.. and smile a very sad smile.. that would be the slide guitar bit. And move on.
I wonder sometimes if we don't all live in a certain fantasy... the internet has provided me with many memories.. I cherish them all.. as I cherish you all.
Blessings
Ricky
Lyrics
Wild Lives
It was a cold night in September.
And I decided to walk home.
I'd been drinking, the last I remember.
With my friends, who write all the songs
We'd been jamming to tunes by Carol Lowery
Her music touches my soul.
There was Lucky, Didier and Les Lewellyn.
Joel Kelly's vocals were strong.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
Now the tunes.. that we had been playing.
Were written by artist unknown.
Recorded on machines, that lets them live their dreams
Songs from years ago.
And try as we might, we couldn't play it right.
Gray Martins "Mystery Stare"
There was upside down Doug!
And Jill pulled the plug
When we tried to play the Questionnaires.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
And we lived Wild Lives, Wild Lives, Wild Lives.. here at home.
on our computers.
It was a cold night in September.
And I decided to walk home.
Hey Ricky...I just revisited this song. Wow! You single-handedly summed up the whole vibe of the online indie movement of a few years ago with a beautiful song. So much soul and sincerity. Man, you nailed it, with this one... Peace! Also, rest in peace to Les Lewellyn, one of the great ones... gray
