Note about the "2025 Remixes." Since I don't currently have the resources to book studio time or musicians, I am polishing my old demos in Suno. I'm doing my best to keep Suno from making alterations to my compositions, and succeeding about two thirds of the time, but it is an uphill battle. For the sake of transparency, I am making an effort to delineate all of the (usually very slight) alterations Suno has made to the recordings, but it will take a while. In the meantime, once you've heard a "remix" to hear how I want the song to sound, you may want to scroll down to the original demo, which, in a few cases, will be a better representation of how the song _goes_. Until I've finished those notes, I can tell you that "Loafy's Blues," "Misfit Moon," "It Does Not Mean a Thing," "Home," "Saturn Road," "The Skin of Our Teeth," "Old Friends Come Back," "Scarecrow," and all the instrumentals are pretty much perfect reproductions of my original compositions. I'll endeavor to make notes on the others, describing precisely how they were altered. And again, you can hear my original, much less slick demos of those songs further down on the page, for comparison. ====== I am what you might call a musical generalist. I listen to pretty much everything and I compose in pretty much any style, though I concentrate mainly on folk, folk-rock, rock, synth-pop, alternative, comedy, musical theatre, jazz, new-age, film music, avant-garde, and the occasional lullaby (why sing your kid to sleep with "Rock-a-bye Baby" when you can can create something personalized?). I've done most of my professional (i.e. paid) work in the theatre, where I've been musical director for dozens of productions. I was also musical director of Mental Floss, the legendary Miami improv group, for over 500 performances; I recently did a stint with Laughing Gas, which rose from the ashes of Mental Floss 11 years ago to become the longest running improv group in South Florida. As a singer-songwriter, I've concentrated most of my energy on my signature style of synth-driven folk-rock (sort of Indigo Girls meets Vangelis). I'm also something of a minor celebrity in the world of Filk (folk music for science fiction fans), where I am proud to be the object of the worlds smallest international fan base.

Story behind the song
Suno really grokked this tune, but I have a single quibble. The last chorus of the song ("when worlds collide/and the two are one...") uses a different last three chords than the other choruses. The chords under "I will not turn away/from the total eclipse of the sun" should be E - F# minor - A minor 7 - E. It's a much better conclusion than just repeating the usual chords. You can scroll down on the page to find my original version (the 2014 remix) to hear how that sounds.
Lyrics
So cold in the shadow of a doubt I'm burning flags and bridges just to keep my hands warm So sad, we march in time Our different drummers are all alike So lost don't know where I could be I asked directions but the map ain't the territory Three years ago I scratched an itch now the skin is bleeding Payback's a bitch Too tired to work, too wired to sleep I'm tired of the hours and the comp'ny I keep I changed my clothes, changed my hair But you can't change direction when you're going nowhere Too late, I lost the thread, singing along with the voice in my head I get the feeling something's about to change Well they say I'll go blind But I'm just having fun When I look directly At the total eclipse of the sun I tried to learn the money dance, but I just couldn't get the groove I rode the ragged edge so long, I started to wear it smooth Holes in my shoes, holes in my pride Holes in my story a mile wide But I can still see you last time we met Image on my retina bleeding red Well they say I'll go blind But I'm just having fun When I look directly At the total eclipse of the sun Well they say I'll go blind But I'm just having fun When I look directly At the total eclipse of the sun When worlds collide And the two are one I will not turn away From the total eclipse of the sun
