Stephen has been playing guitar since 1971, and recording it since 1976. In 1980, after having been introduced to works of Brian Eno and Robert Fripp), he turned to creating "situational" music that was also for the most part, as it happened, ambient.
As technology has become more affordable (to say almost nothing of a background in the PC hardware/software business), experiments culminated in a hard disk-recording home studio by 1995. At this same time Stephen posted the first EarthLight Studios web page, and by 1996 music works in RealAudio format were available for online listening. Soon after followed the Loop Of The Week, a self-executing WAV loop that provides "an ambient backdrop for your desktop," and is updated weekly at the Studios site. He composes new pieces on a weekly basis.
Five unpublished collections await full production: "Songs from a Tunnel", "S", "Songs for Commuting" (formerly "Jubilee"), "Club Meditation", and "S 2002". In addition, a number of specific concept-based collections are always being worked upon, one of which has a science fiction theme, another containing longer-than-usual ambient meditations for recreational use, and the ongoing "WIP (Works In Progress)" being a sampler of What Is Being Worked Upon Right Now.
All of these are released on the web before letting them go anywhere else, on IUMA, StationMP3/IndieLaunch, SoundClick, and Stephen's home for sound works, http://www.earthlight.net/Studios - where the Loop of the Week is still posted after nearly 10 years of putting original music on the web.
