Story behind the song
This song came to my attention a long long time ago. It was cleverly used in a tv ad for a very famous scottish lager and it was sung by Frankie Miller. It was a short while after i learned that it wasnt actually his song and that it was originally written by Dougie Maclean. I sought out a listen to the original as I thought Frankies version would be hard to beat but at the same time you can't beat the original version of a song. After a listen I realised that both versions sounded amazing. Its always been a song I would have loved to have sung and being Scottish it has that certain resonance of actually meaning something. There are few things more powerfull than heritage. I think kens done a marvellous job in his interpretation of the music and i think we struck a nice balance in our version without duplicating it - and its great to finally get the chance to sing the song about my homeland....Jim. This is such an awesome and emotive song. I tried to get the guitars to sound as Scottish as possible (if there is such a thing!) It was an absolute pleasure to play and record this one. Ken.
