The Damage Is Done
Another wet day up here in the north
Hiding within my own prison walls
Not to protect me - to protect the outdoors
I’ve fought many battles and fallen before
Thought I’d put down my guns, hung up the armour
But karma looks like this battle ain’t won
I’ve a feeling I’m steaming into - something ain’t right
Gearing up, equipped for the fight of my life
There’s only so many places to hide
Lies in the dark soon shine in the light
For my soul has been stripped til I barely exist
I no longer care, not one little bit
I’ve fought other wars, am wounded and scarred
Most of them hidden, except the ones up my arms
Gonna rest up a while and prepare to re-arm
No harm in alliances - steady the calm
So when will it stop
Why can’t I switch off
The feeling I’m dreaming the breathing has stopped
It ain’t over until
The fat lady sings
And I don’t hear a note from your ex - not a thing
This nightmare’s too raw to write any more
Dissociation still hitting the score
But worthlessness sometimes creeps into my mind
Yet I keep it inside for the problem is mine
This soldier ain’t finished, ain’t quitting, just singing
This is my life, I hurt and I feel it
Won’t lose it, I choose it
Control I had none
I’ve taken it back - but the damage is done
