The Fighting Brothers McCarthy -- Power Pop from Austin, Texas
Kevin and Steve McCarthy started their musical journey putting on Kiss air-guitar shows in their Ohio garage, replete with lacrosse rackets, makeup and dry ice. They were a certified neighborhood hit. It was years later that the brothers began playing together in best Neil Diamond tribute act, the Diamond Smugglers and also as part of Austin's most scatological Beatles tribute band, the Dung Beatles. These acts built on the brothers’ previous separate work: Kevin fronted Hey Zeus, Black Irish and Wheel Local 404 and the Vincents, while Steve drummed for the Solid Goldsteins, the Wannabees and Michael Hall and the Woodpeckers. It was only a matter of time before the two joined forces as the all-original Fighting Brothers McCarthy. The Fighting Brothers McCarthy is a showcase of powerful pop/rock gems featuring both brothers on guitar and vocals. Their sound is an amalgam of the best of rock and pop, driven by hooks and underpinned by a muscular backing band that knows how to turn a song around on a dime. The Brothers' harmonies intertwine with chiming guitars and swirling keyboards to create a blanket of sound. Familiar melodies and tones turn in new ways that move the listener. It's music of, by and for the consummate music fan. Kevin and Steve are joined in the Fighting Brothers McCarthy by Bryant Worley on guitar and vocals, Paul Rutherford on keyboards and vocals, Whit Harrington on drums and Marty Hobratschk on bass. The Fighting Brothers McCarthy's debut release, Ladies and Gentlemen , is an 11-song disc that features the songwriting talent of both Steve and Kevin. The album was recorded on a shoestring budget at Austin's Bridge Studio from Fall 2003 to Spring 2004. James Stevens of Moonlight Towers engineered and co-produced the record. Ladies and Gentlemen ... is slated for release September 24, 2004. Preview songs and more information about the band are available now at http://www.fightingbrothersmccarthy.com.
