Discovering and relishing in new love while working on the scars that old love creates.
Australian guitarist/songwriter covering genres from guitar instrumentals through to vocal folk and country.
Story behind the song
I wrote this back in 2002. My first love Aleisha and I had broken up at the beginning of 2001 and I had begun a relationship with Tanya 10 months later. I was deeply in love though still carrying the scars from the breakup. While this song begins with an almost forlorn "I used to wake up, thinking of you... back then there was nothing else to do" it quickly turns to how lucky I am to "find my head's been turned".
While I've had this song in demo form (acoustic/electric guitars and solo vocal) since 2002, I just recently retrieved the tracks and began a new project with them. While most of the imperfections that make this piece "a slice of a moment in time" have been given a slight adjustment, it is for the most part true to the original. There has been added backing vocals from Canada's Brett Service and Britain's Iona MacQueen, bass guitar and extra acoustic guitar parts from Brett Service and a complete mix/master overhaul (with Brett's invaluable input).
Lyrics
I used to wake up, thinking of you
Back then there was nothing else to do
But now I find my head's been turned
By a red-headed woman who makes my knees go weak
She's got the prettiest eyes that sparkle when she speaks
These Days
My love goes to someone new
And just like the morning dew
It glitters like a diamond in the sun
And who would've thought
That loving could be so much fun
My heart does flips, every time I see
My baby walking right up to me
A strange feeling, one I'd never had
Cause every time you used to walk in to a room
You'd walk right past, now thank God at last
These Days
My love goes to someone new
And just like the morning dew
It glitters like a diamond in the sun
And who would've thought
That loving could be so much fun
And I can't help feeling lucky and free
This pretty country girl
Fell in love
With a fool like me
Now tonight as I lay my head to sleep
I know in my heart our love is for keeps
Would never have thought I'd feel this way
About a red headed woman who makes my knees go weak
She's got the prettiest eyes that sparkle
When she speaks
These Days
My love goes to someone new
And just like the morning dew
It glitters like a diamond in the sun
And who would've thought
That loving could be so much fun
These Days
My love goes to someone new
And just like the morning dew
It glitters like a diamond in the sun
And who would've thought
That loving could be so much fun
These Days
My love goes to someone new
And just like the morning dew
It glitters like a diamond in the sun
And who would've thought
That loving could be so much fun
