Lyrics
Running through the fire © 2018 Vic Arnold
There's an old man in ragged clothes
in this uptown neighbourhood
Some folks turn and whisper,
"he must be up to no good".
Acts a little crazy now and then
when someone stares.
Not someone you'd mess with
any time or anywhere.

"Running, running, through the blood and mire.
Running, running, running through the fire."
I said, "Hey old man what'ya doing here
in this fancy part of town?
I don't mind at all
but there ain't many like you around."
Then I looked him in the eye
and recognised a dear old friend
I said "It's been a long long while
How've you come to such an end?".
He said:
"Running, running, through the blood and mire.
Running, running, running through the fire."
"I was in the army but
I lost it in the head
Now I can't hold a job down
so I've come to you to beg.
I'm sorry about this look
but my situation's dire
and you'd be looking dirty too
if you'd been through the fire".

He said:
"Now I'm little short on swagger. A little short on style
My hair is growing straggly and my thoughts are turning wild
When you and I were buddies. We walked high on the wire
but there's no net for safety
when you're running, running through the fire".
