Story behind the song
Rescuing a few of the promo tapes from my last club band, the 'Knapp's Cutoff Band' an odd name, but Knapp's Cutoff was just the name of the country road where our studio was located in Crestline, California. Chris Kenard; vocals Steve Layman; piano Michael Duran; guitar Steve Torok; drums Marty Nicklin; bass
Lyrics
Call it wishful thinking, That you'd extend your hand For the sound of one heart breaking Inspire you to take a stand Something in the water, Something in the air Sometimes the truth is tougher Than any lie that we can share A river gonna rise And I'll bring you shelter A light is gonna shine, And I'll show you the way The river's gonna rise And I'll be there to hold you If not for forgiveness And this bitter rain Turning down tomorrow Spinning 'round a hollow core No one for you to follow Just the hope for something more Call it wishful thinking Paint it on my face Another tragic story About a fool who lost his place A river gonna rise And I'll bring you shelter A light is gonna shine And I'll show you the way The river's gonna rise And I'll be there to hold you If not for forgiveness And this bitter rain.

You really were in some great bands. Every member of band is top shelf. Oh I like that bass breakout. Nice guitar work.

Absolutely brilliant Michael! Such an amazing sound, very soulful and dynamic - what a great band you had there! Blown away by the vocalist, fantastic voice.

Some good southern rock here! LOVE the vocals as they remind me of some of the "good ole days" back in the day bands. Got me bobbing my head in my office so it's really good! ;)

This song made me remember such a wonderful group as "Grand Funk Railroad" - I mean atmosphere of the song - and thus my own youth, since then it was one of my favorite bands. Good playing - good singing! :D
