I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.

Riggins I’d get some pants that were hot I’d be clean as the Dickens In the dumpster we threw away the wrapping papers and bows I told my parents see you later. And I started to go I reached in my pocket for the best Christmas Gift I would ever get And I realized I’d forgotten my 50 dollar gift certificate. We looked high and low I began to fear the worst I’d thrown it away with the trash in the dumpster behind the church I lifted the lid of the dumpster and looked nervously over the rim my father said “Move over youngster” and he boldly climbed in I said dad I’m the one who threw it away you don’t have to do this But my dad continued anyway, while I stood there feeling useless After a while he arose from deep within refuse With a smile he held close the gift again, and said I love you Chorus I’ll never forget that gift and what my Father did for me It reminds me another discarded gift and what it took retrieved God gave us the gift of eternal life and a relationship with him But through sin and strife we’ve thrown it away time and time again. But God so loved the world, that he sent his only son Into the dumpster of this world, to do what must be done. To give his life as ransom, to pay the cost that’s due. To put the gift once more in our hands and say “My child I love you” Well I took the gift, and for fear I stuck it in my wallet My wife reminded me it was only good for a year, one day when she saw it. I told her don’t worry it’s good up till late December There No need to hurry it’s May, I have plenty of time to remember. Well May became December, the days quickly retired And I rushed to the mall with less than one day till the gift expired I couldn’t believe the sign that arose in the distance J. Riggins was closed! The store had gone out of business. Chorus 20 years ago this simple gift was received It was given, retrieved, but sadly never redeemed So now it hangs framed on the wall in my office There it remains a symbol of the greatest gift ever offered This song aint about a gift card, it goes much deeper It’s about the love of God in Jesus that’s given to each It’s the most amazing gift of an unimaginable price And it’s the one gift offered I hope you never lose twice.
