Shoegaze - Dreampop duo Vela. Swirling layers of guitar, lush ethereal vocals.
Vela is a husband and wife dreampop duo from Indiana. In 1999 Jason and Kate Robbins were driven to create a unique sound that would set their band apart from the mainstream, but at the same time would captivate a wide range of fans. The band knew that by bringing in a variety of their influences and cultivating them into a single entity, it would evoke a sense of familiarity and acceptance in their listeners. This sonic singularity is fueled by emotionally charged lyrics, intricate bass lines, layers upon layers of processed guitar sounds and Kate Robbins’ beautiful, ethereal vocals. The sound of Vela is a breath of fresh air for those who long to hear something with substance and a creative edge. Jason Robbins’ guitar sounds glide together with Kate’s celestial melodies to create a shoegazing sound that cradles the listener into a dreamy soundscape. However, this “otherworldliness” is far from lethargic. Vela’s music is very much like a tightly-woven, dynamic wall of sound that brings something new to the listener every time the band’s music is heard.
