I was teaching at Berklee College of Music from 1979 to 1977 and Gary Chaffee was the head of the department. He was instrumental of me understanding many time relationships and applying them to the drum set and my percussion ensemble writing. He is one of the great teachers of our time. It was my honor to be a part of his staff.
