Story behind the song
My take on James Horner's iconic soundtrack from 'Titanic' with Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebo. Although my version is played faster than the original, I followed Horner's mood for the intro of his hymn, then when the original drops in pace to accentuate profound loss, my version instead raises the pace giving the hymn a slight lift in mood until the impending doom of the outré sequence. Instruments played with the Fishman TriplePlay guitar synth. Female Soloist; Legato Singing Soprano 2 from SampleTank2. Mixed Choral Ensemble; SampleTank3. Solo Fiddle; Miroslav Philharmonik. Pan Flute & Tin Whistle; Magix World Flutes. Harp; Magix Celtic Harps. TEControl was used to modify the Pan Flute breath noise and the Solo Fiddle's bow pressure. Instruments played on the AKAI MPK261. Piano Bass intro; 'The Giant' from Native Instruments Kontakt 5. Orchestral Strings and Brass Sections; Miroslav Philharmonik. Magix 'VITA' Contrabass and 'DN-e1' Synth Bass. Outré Percussion from Magix 'VITA' Orchestral Drums. Recorded, produced and mastered using Magix Samplitude Music Studio 2015. Director James Cameron originally intended Enya to compose the music, and in fact put together a rough edit of the film using her music as a temporary soundtrack. After she declined, he approached James Horner, although their relations were cold after their first cooperation in Aliens, the soundtrack of Braveheart made Cameron overlook their differences. Horner composed his soundtrack, keeping in mind Enya's style, with Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebo performing the wordless vocals on the soundtrack. Horner knew Sissel from the album 'Innerst i sjelen' (Deep Down in the Soul) and he particularly liked how she sang the song 'Eg Veit I Himmerik Ei Borg' ("I Know in Heaven There Is a Castle"). Horner had tried 25 or 30 singers and, in the end, he chose Sissel to sing the wordless tune.

Your version of this composition is amazingly beautiful, being completely organic and genuine at the same time, Mike! You obviously own the symphonic method of writing music...

This soundtrack is remarkable in so many ways. The tone of the instruments are amazing, the low end is nice and full. The higher notes are crisp and clear and intertwine really nice together. This is a high quality rendition of this famous piece expertly performed and recorded! I am only sorry I am a little late hearing this outstanding piece of music.
Your amazing cuz !

Awesome work Michael! Its just amazing what you can do with the tripleplay. Love the celtic feel of this tune. I actually didnt know Sissel was part of this soundtrack. For some resson i just thought it was Celine Dion singing it all. Anyway. You've done a great job with this one. Fantastic arrangement, performance and production.

I was never a fan of the film and so probably overlooked the music, so this is really refreshing and, in truth, bleeding brilliant! I don't know if you embellished the original music or just put your own spin on the orchestration and soundscape, but you made an unmistakeable MD epic for sure! Love that Giant sound (must get me one o them critters) but the whole piece is fantastic. Bravo sir!

Always hard to say if the original or the revisited one of Michael "Capitan" Duran is the best version......I tend to stand Michael´s work by!!! His geniality and skills are outrageous!!! Splendid rendition with so much sentiment and love. Yes kinda Celtic coloration in it, but this is what proves the genius of Mr. Michael Duran ( and the dramatic at the end is cosequentially right if we think about the story!!!).... My compliment for another flawless interpretation of a classic, mi Capitan!! :)

I too picked up on the "Celtic" vibe here. This piece is indicative of the great music you arrange and produce Michael - complex and multifaceted - that's why I call you Maestro. It is so cool to hear the musicality of musicians as they transcend the limitations of their native instruments. Bravo Maestro!

Wow, Michael. This is so beautiful. It sounds celtic and medieval, but it also has this aura of that great story about the sea and all it's greatness and the heroic events that it has witnessed. The music is so well written and performed and one feels your personal touch all the way through it. Thank you for this true masterpiece! Love it!

Great instrumental cover Michael! Nice classical Celtic feel - excellent use of dynamics - a breathtaking arrangement!
This was playing on the challenge radio as I was reading something else so while I was quite enjoying that intro I was surprised when the theme came in. "Hey, I know that tune..." Well done Michael - pristine sound, balanced, full mix, and a creative arrangement.
