Story behind the song
This song is a tribute to the life, heart, and ministry of Pastor Bob Thomas. When Bob passed away, it was heavy upon me to write "something". As the song came to life, I was able to base it upon my own true life experience and depict within that moment, the man Bob Thomas was. I hope and pray I have made him proud.
Lyrics
Verse 1 The eulogy was read today, a real good friend has gone away Gone to meet the one he lived his life to see He’ll walk through heaven’s gates and behold the king of kings From the pulpit a warrior for the cross He gave his life to God to reach out to the lost Don’t you cry because he hasn’t said goodbye He’s gone home (Chorus) He’s gone home to be with Jesus He’s gone home to meet his king He’s waiting there to greet us At his savior’s feet His pain is gone and I know he’s not alone As he kneels before God’s throne This is what he shared, and I can’t wait to see him there He’s gone home Verse 2 I never will forget the day, I walked in and needed him to pray He put my mind at ease as he took me by the hand He said son I’ve been there too, so I’d know he understands Then he said the road your on seems empty dark and long But still you’re not alone I am here today, because he has shown the way He’s gone home (Repeat Chorus)
