Give And Take (remake)

This was originally the first track on my album "Over The Edge" but quite frankly I never uploaded it because I was unhappy with the way it came out. I hope you enjoy this remake.

Story behind the song
This song has a storied history. My friend Derek Dennison and I co-wrote the lyrics back in 1983 but never really knew what to do with it. I scored a basic three chord rock tune for it and at the time it sounded pretty good to us. But after I started playing a little bit, It quite frankly sucked. So I decided to take it in another direction. I scrapped the original tune and came up with one that had more of a jazz/r&b feel. I played it for the first time in public at the grand opening of the State Theater's Plum Alley Theater wing to a great audience reception. I decided to record it on my second album "Over The Edge". But never uploaded it because it just didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped it would and the critics panned it (mostly due to timing issues). I recorded an acoustic version of it with Kim Weber taking the lead vocals when we released our 2x12 album "We'll Play That Bridge When We Come To It" in 2004. The critical reception was much more kind than with the previous version. She and I also rescored the classic tune "Summertime" and tagged it at the end of the song when we performed both our acoustic shows and with our band Junell Street. When Kim left the band, I changed the key we perfomed it in and started singing the lead again. We still continued to add "Summertime" afterward in our live shows with Karen Jaggers doing lead vocals on it. This version was in the process of being recoded when we started undergoing some changes in the band's line up, so instead of scrapping it, I decided to record it solo and add Karen on backing vocals. This version was featured on the band's first commercial album "Coming Home". The band has decided we are going to re-record the song with our current line up and I have decided to include this version in my Anthology.
