Prog rock with a hard edge. Is it OK to wear a bullet belt with a cape?

Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
Another one of those where I'm not entirely sure what the lyric means but hopefully it finds some resonance with someone. Anyway it was a good excuse for a good old prog wig-out which I mercifully managed to edit down to under 8 minutes (at one point it was pushing 11)
Lyrics
Dragged my arm 'cross a black rose thorn Crimson bloomed where the vein had torn Light and warmth in an instant drained See how easily things can change See this blood that darkens my flesh It's all there is It's all that's left Molten with rage Angels lost to the flood Every step to get me here Is written in this blood Take these sutures of gilded lies Take the bandages off my eyes Patch the holes in my punctured skin Keep the dangerous liquid in See this blood that darkens my flesh It's all there is It's all that's left Molten with rage Angels lost to the flood Every step to get me here Is written in this blood Every step to get me here Is written in this blood

Really great stuff from you, Steve. I am so impressed with the way that you build up the dramatic progression in this piece. Very cool work on the bass and 7 to the beat seems to become your music well. Is there some sort of sidechaining on the chorus? Very nicely produced any way. The way new instruments keep popping up adds to the diversity and exciting soundscape of this piece. Great guitar work as always and the synth in the last part is a pleasant surprise. Last but not least, your voice really shines, full of emotions and with great determination. Super work!

awesome!
Every time I hear it there's something new. I think I've listened ten or so times, but I'm ready for the next ten.

Hey Steve, what's happening ! . . . wow, this is mega. I like it :). Nice quiet intro them wham ! . . . then that soft bass and piano interlude. :) Simple 'sweeping' chords always sound effective. Powerful and wide ranging variety of sounds happening here. 1970's Hammond organ. Your musical palette shows real class. The guitar solo has a clean/only slightly distorted sound that I especially like. A very good blending of the guitar with the keyboards. The production is so, so good. Really love the 'vintage' synth solos; everything that makes a great Progressive Rock song . . .but there is an emphasis on Rock. This is outstanding.
