If's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame me
If it's hot then give God the glory. If it's not then blame Mitch.
I'm Joe Johnson a local United Methodist Pastor. Before I felt God calling me into the ministry I thought I was going to be a rap artist. For 8 years I did nothing with music until my wife introduced me to a group called "The Gospel Gansters" in 1998. It was an eye opening experience. I was amazed to see people using rap for the glory of God. That day I picked up paper and pen and I haven't put it down yet.
Story behind the song
Man looks on the outward appearance, God looks at the heart. Which is more important? If you put all your trust on the outward appearance then your a chump and you need to change.
Lyrics
Chump Change
I keep hearing bout you spending dough and getting mo
But tell me what you living for
(is it things that fade way)
They keep saying that you living fast and getting cash
But tell me could you live with that
(Can what you work for be taken away)
Cuz we all see so many people fall for the same old thang -
Chump Change
Don’t ge me wrong cuz of this song, I like the nice thangs
But I don’t covet, or love it, them things that blang blang
Take it or leave it, don’t need it, them crowd stoppers
If its just showing your dough then you can just drop it
Cuz I’m a tell you right now in case you aint heard
Learn your lesson those possessions belong to the Lord
You just a steward, so get to it, handling your chores
Quit tryna act like you all that, cuz it aint even yours
We believe just like Eve that we can be God
Believe the lie that’s what you buy, will that be cash check or charge
We’re like the rich young ruler who came to the Lord
Obeyed in every way ever rule he’d ever heard
But in the end he’d sinned and walked away sad
He was to greedy to the needy the things he had
Loving his riches more than others was his problem
Did he really own his possessions or did they posses him?
I keep hearing bout you spending dough and getting mo
But tell me what you living for
(is it things that fade way)
They keep saying that you living fast and getting cash
But tell me could you live with that
(Can what you work for be taken away)
Cuz we all see so many people fall for the same old thang -
Chump Change
Lord I’m on my knees begging please, help us see the way
We think we’re ballers and players, we the ones getting played
We celebrate thugs and drugs and want to be ganstas
This life we living you done given and we don’t even thank you
Dirty bags and filthy rags, we are simply worthless
Till you breath your breath into our chest and you make us priceless
But we’re clueless to the mess of all our excess
Rich in the flesh and poor in the soul and we think we’re a success
Well bottom lines and dollar signs don’t measure the life we live
Cuz when your blessed it’s not what you’ve got, but what you give
Now I’m sure that what endures comes without a price tag
It’s not wrapped in store bags for big brags but it’s free like what Christ has
Love and hope, Nope, you can’t buy em with cash
And they wont be stolen or molden for what you do for Christ will last
So don’t be shallow and hallow and everything you see don’t swallow
Just put your treasurers in heaven and your heart will be there also
I keep hearing bout you spending dough and getting mo
But tell me what you living for
(is it things that fade way)
They keep saying that you living fast and getting cash
But tell me could you live with that
(Can what you work for be taken away)
Cuz we all see so many people fall for the same old thang -
