Paper Boat
by Tammy
© 2013
Edgar decided to reveal his heart to Ellen
pulled out his best pen and a piece of vellum
the words came and he laid each down on the sheet
the loops and dots of ink made the words he could not speak
and he made it clear
his life would be much better with Ellen near
He folded his desires very carefully
each line and crease he pressed neat and perfectly
all of his hopes were formed into a little ship
a tiny vessel carries his love on a trip
with his words downstream
Edgar will set sail his ship of dreams
chorus
Oh little paper boat
your journey has begun
please stay atop the waters
and brave the vast unknown
I tried to make you sturdy so you can stay afloat
my future relies on this little paper boat
Ellen stepped outside and something caught her gaze
a small paper boat was tossed upon the waves
the water started soaking the paper through and through
Ellen felt that there must be something she could do
but she grasped the air
she looked down and the boat had disappeared
Ellen reached in the water and pulled out the paper
soaking wet the ink had run she dried it, then later
carefully she looked for words and the only thing was clear
Edgar loved her dearly and he wished that she were near
She reached for the door
she'll live with Edgar upstream on the shore
chorus
Oh little paper boat
your journey has begun
please stay atop the waters
and brave the vast unknown
I tried to make you sturdy so you can stay afloat
my future relies on this little paper boat
