Story behind the song
Willie is 6 yr old Paint Tennessee walker, he came to Buck Creek Valley rescue in 2012 after being severely beaten with 2X4's and left to die. He is a horse that has been traumatized by abuse from people and now has become a healthy, functional, loving horse. Robin and Richard Mills run Buck Creek Valley Rescue.
Lyrics
Riding Ol Willie Look into my eyes, I was created to be loved. I can feel and only want to be your friend. I carry you on my back, lifting you high to the sky. Though I can't speak the words, I honor your command. Riding ol Willie from the Falls of Ohio, From the rescue in Buck Creek to Great Falls Montana. Treat me with kindness, let me run free, And feel the wind blowing down on my face. I only want to live without any fear, To be able to trust again for the rest of my days. Riding ol Willie from the Falls of Ohio, From the rescue in Buck Creek to Great Falls Montana. You and I, we'll ride together, Through the highs and the lows I won't let you down. Thank you for saving me. Off into the sunset, with the moon bright above, We go the distance, nothing to hurt us now. I'll be content knowing that the danger is gone, But the others endure torture, why is it allowed? Riding ol Willie from the Falls of Ohio, From the rescue in Buck Creek to Great Falls Montana. I have a lot of love for animals and do what I can to support the people who rescue them. I've always had rescue dogs and I visit horse and other rescue centers. They make wonderful friends. Don't know how anyone could mistreat them. This is a very thought-provoking song, tenderly performed, and I hope it draws attention to their situation.

Touching... I feel the compassion for Willie and the happiness, that he has found a safe home in the end. A beautiful song about hope, and it's your special art, Bobo, that you can weave a fine acoustic arrangement around this story, and your expression is as always in your ballads non-sentimental, but warm and uplifting, directly from the heart :-)

I can hear the melancholy or emotional vibe coming through with this great song. The writing along with vocal and music fits perfectly and sets the mood. Nice work!

A truly great song Bob :) Having sponsored 2 wild horse rescues in Shingletown CA, I can relate ;) the time I spent riding them in the Mt Lassen wilderness was priceless.

Wonderful touching song you guys...Ol' Wille is a fine looking horse and no animal deserves to be beaten like that. The lyrics and arrangement convey the sadness of the past but also the brighter day and high hopes for better tomorrows. Loved the fiddle Bob. Real nice tune for a beautiful animal who, evidently, was one of the lucky ones and was able to escape his dire situation.
