Story behind the song
The Shadow" - One of the most popular radio shows in history. The show went on the air in August of 1930."Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!" The opening lines of the "Detective Story" program captivated listeners and are instantly recognizable even today. Originally the narrator of the series of macabre tales, the eerie voice known as The Shadow became so popular to listeners that "Detective Story" was soon renamed "The Shadow," and the narrator became the star of the old-time mystery radio series, which ran until 1954.

this just builds and builds. love the percussion and the swirling guitars and synths that merge into deep piano riffs. the vocal samples are spooky and add the mysteries to this well done track! really good, Al!
As always, Al, this is a tremendous production. Your music genius enables NEW AND FRESH approaches to listening pleasure. In this instance, the CBC Detective Theme Challenge is met with perfection. The 7/4 time was key to the mystery of the song. And your selection/mix of instruments (e.g. drums) is brilliant in presentation. This song was at the TOP of the list for the CBC Detective Theme Challenge Tunes. Thanks again for the especially unique music pleasure, and for the dl.

Not often I have to duck bullets hearing music! Nice build up of the intended tension with cool burn outs! Very cool 'drive' on the guitar/synth theme. Drum style gives feedback to Miami Vice. And that creapy voice realy does the trick! Awesome intro-theme for a detective series! Case closed.

Suspence, who knows what exactely happened... gun shots (!!), a car is starting and disappears in the night, the music so thrilling high, a voice in the dark ... only the "Shadow" knows!! Marvelous example of composition and originality: Al, you just do not stop to surprise me.....Excellent work!! :) -Spin-

A very strong suspense atmosphere from the beginning on. Shooting, siren, dark voice, that synth sound that is becoming louder. Tension, like something is could explode every moment. I like the change you bring at 1:33, the piano. Surprising. It's getting more and more nervous. At 1:59 that dark voice suddenly reminds me of the voice in "Thriller" of Michael Jackson. What is going to happen? Synths have come back. And again something very bad could happen every moment. 3:33: The "Thriller" voice is back. At the end I'm really wondering if it's really the same sample used for "Thriller". This is music for an action thriller. I really see bad things happening while listening. A very good building up, surprising and of course, perfectly produced. Very good, Al!
