Soulful blues that speaks out from the fear of my dark past and the demons I've yet to face.
Story behind the song
My 16 year old mother worked in the coal mines of my hometown of Muck City, Alabama. She died of black lung while giving birth to me in the very same coal mine. My father, who was only 13 years old himself tried to bring me up as best he could but he was killed by a train later that same afternoon. I wrote this song the next day and it means a great deal to me to see the song on the internet for generations to enjoy long after I'm gone.
Lyrics
mama worked in the coal mines
that's where i was born
mama died right there in the coal mines
the day i was born
daddy tried to raise me
but he was killed by a train
seven miles of train track
were covered with his brains
coal baby blues
what to do?
i'm afraid i got the coal baby blues
coal baby blues
what am i to do?
coal baby blues
