Story behind the song
I have always loved the chord progression and melody of this song,Norman Gimbal and Charles Fox are geniuses , the songs lyrics were originally written for LA bistro singer Lori Lieberman, Helen Reddy did a version that is just beautiful and you can find it on Youtube, she could have been the first to record this song but she said that she put it aside and forgot about it because she was so busy , but Roberta Flack took this song and made it into a blockbuster that lives on through today

Beautiful rendition instrumentally and vocals are top notch. Every time I think this is about Don McLean makes me shake my head. I love his music but his personality has not aged well like fine wine. Lol.

Ive always thought this was such a unique song. I love the keys in this and how balanced everything is.. so crystal clear. the harmonies in the vocals and her voice is so right on and steady and beautiful. very full and rich.. excellent!
