When I heard Nadia's gorgeous "Enchanted River", I felt compelled to write a lyric in a mediaeval vein. It didn't match the structure of the music, and so couldn't be sung, but Nadia asked if I'd like to simply narrate it.

Lyrics
Enchanted River V1 The enchanted river winds at night Around the twisty bends Past my castle’s lonely keep Its journey never ends V2 The enchanted river tells a tale Of dear loves dead and gone And on [the] nights when I don’t sleep I listen till the dawn Refrain If I were fair Rapunzel With her tresses long and gold A comely prince might climb to me Drive out my castle’s cold But like the Lady of Shalott I watch the waters flow Though only in a mirror [For] the world’s not mine to know And I weave into a tapestry All I see below V3 The enchanted river sings to me Old songs of troubadours Paying court to ladies fair As in the days of yore V4 The enchanted river knows my heart And keeps my secret well Though I may sigh in mute despair Its here I'm forced to dwell Refrain If I were fair Rapunzel With her tresses long and gold A comely prince might climb to me Drive out my castle’s cold But like the Lady of Shalott I watch the waters flow Though only in a mirror [For] the world’s not mine to know And I weave into a tapestry All I see below Like the Lady of Shalott I watch the waters flow Though only in a mirror [For] the world’s not mine to know And I weave into a tapestry All I see below © 2011 Donna Devine
