Story behind the song
My dad did all the things talked about in the song. He was active in his church, a boy scout leader, a basketball coach, had a professional baseball contract when he was younger, and he was a tireless worker. He left very big shoes to fill.

My Dad Taught Me How. © Doug Buche 2010/2011, all rights reserved (2011 Revision) 1st Verse: He went to work most everyday of his life. He loved his kids, that man, you could be sure he would be true to his wife. Always a man’s man, he was more than a father. He was my teacher, he was my hero. Chorus: Dad was a good man, always there for me. Whenever, I saw him, he would make me smile. Well, he is gone now, but I hold him in memory. He was my hero, my Dad taught me how. 2nd Verse: He was my coach. He taught me to catch and throw, to shoot a basketball, dribble like a globetrotter, and what he taught me, it would show. He taught me to work, and how to play, to love God, and how to pray. He was my teacher, he was my hero. Chorus: Bridge: He taught me why, he taught me when, he taught me where, but most of all, he taught me how. My Dad was my hero. Third Verse: Your name on a birth certificate. It's not like earning a diploma. There is no formal education. To teach you how to be a Dad. So how could I learn how to be a good father? How could I learn? My Dad taught me how. Bridge and fade out:
