Story behind the song
Originally posted May 17, 2011 and remastered Feb 28, 2017. One of my lifetime favorites, I first heard this as a child (thanks dad!) and it has held a special place in my heart ever since. Morgenstimmung (Morning Mood) depicts the glorious rising of the sun with one of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard. The Incidental music to Peer Gynt, Op. 23, was written in 1875 by Edvard Grieg for Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen's play of the same name. It premiered along with the play on 24 February 1876 in Christiania (now Oslo). For many years, the suites were the only parts of the music that were available, as the original score was not published until 1908, by Johan Halvorsen, one year after Grieg's death. all parts are played entirely by ear from recordings of Griegs original score, using MIDI & Magix Music Maker VSTI voicings. For an added treat please visit Morten Gjermundsen's page and listen to his stunning guitar solos in his version Thanks for listening!

A great take on "Morning" Michael, I've always enjoyed this suite (and not just the "Mountain King"). Respectful of its origins yet full of your personality as well. :D

One of my all time favorite classic tracks. That reminds me of a periode when I was a little boy and recorded tons of classical music from the classic radio on tape. I think the old tapes must still be somewhere down in the cellar in a box. Awesome work

Not enough stars for this re-creation with enough symphonic sounds to make the Boston Pops jealous! Truly amazing work!!! Edited to add - great remix/remastering!

Excellent work Michael!! :D I really enjoyed following the progress you made while working on this and now to hear the final version! Beautiful strings and flute work. The percussion and horns sounds really great and make it sound really huge! Its like im listening to a live performance in a large concert hall! And you learnt to play all this by ear.Very impressive!! Great performance and production! This is something you can be proud of! :D
