In 2008, Donald W. Mohr collected some of Austin's finest to form a free jazz ensemble for live playing. Austin, having a primarily straight-jazz scene had seen similar acts in the past but they were few and far between. Difficult to find the appropriate venue, Nuclear Powered Winnebago ultimately never found a niche in Austin.
