Story behind the song
Sarah, my wife, rode the last run of the Bluebird Train in Chicago when she was a girl. Here's the story about it.
Lyrics
Bluebird Train copyright 2010 Kevin Miller Does anybody know, Where old locomotives go, Do they scrap ‘em, or just leave ‘em out to rest? It seemed a crying shame, When they took away the trains, And the Bluebird was the one that I loved best. Dad pulled out his crumpled map, And he set me in his lap, By the window, where I could see the view. Over rivers, and the farms, She never did nobody harm. Folks came running just to see her passing through. . Chorus: Oh the whistle blows, And the railcars roll, Then the miles go by Watch the Bluebird fly---- St. Louis to Chicago, She never let us down. Everybody smiled when the Bluebird came to town. Instrumental Break Verse 2 Well she’d cut right through the air, And always get you there. For business, or a trip to see your kin. You could sleep, or you could dine. Everybody dressed so fine, I wondered where they headed & where they been. Times have changed, I’m well aware But I’m happy I was there. I close my eyes, and see her plain as day. Good old progress forges on, Now the Bluebird Train is gone, Such a bitter pill to watch her roll away. Chorus 2X Instrumental ending

I've always loved songs about trains...your style reminds me both of Ricky Skaggs and Norman Blake. Not many bluegrass people can walk the line between fresh and faithful to tradition, yet your tunes are exactly that...impressive.

beautiful song.. as usual..!! Cheers
Kevin, this is exactly the kind of song that reminds me of the fact that, even though I am German, every time I come to the US and just leave the aircraft, be it NYC or Chicago or Atlanta or SFO, I feel like coming home. And it´s your music that reconnects me to this feeling right now. Thank you for that! Masterfully written and performed, excellent lyrics, picking and singing. You guys are an outstanding family and yes, you made my day, because it makes me feel like ......home. Cheers from Frankfurt, my friends!

This requires words I can not use here! You have to be the best unknown cat out there in the woods of Washington. Corn bread must do wonders for the music soul.

What a great song Kevin. Excellent lyrics that really generate good imagery and reflect the era. Ma's bass is so warm and holds this whole tune solid on the rails. Your mando and young Forrest on that 5 string really fill the tune with spirit. Your singing is ace, especially liked the harmonies in the chorus. Fine new tune Kevin and Co!!
