The imminent EU referendum reminded me of a track Ricky and I produced a few years ago called St. George's Pride, which starts with the line 'A nation losing more than borders, am I getting through to you'. Although the lyrics pertain to the English (I'm English after all) I realise that the song actually relates to Britain as a whole ('When Britannia stood tall and proud...' is another line.) The song is Punk(ish) - a typically British contribution to fashion - and the lyrics have never been more pertinent. Change Saint George to Saint Andrew, Patrick or David and change England and the flag reference to the relevant country and you have a Brexit song for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
A nation losing more than borders,
they're getting through to you
Bringing tears to Georges eyes,
revolutions overdue.
What's happened to Britannia
does she no longer rule.
rally to this call to arms
and keep our country true.
England....don't lose the fight
England....regain the fire.
When Britannia stood tall and proud
and the world was ours to rule,
We don't need opportunists
telling us what we should do,
The years have made us passive
and compliance overrides
Remember where we came from and
regain St. Georges pride.
England....don't lose the fight
England....regain the fire.
A nation losing more than pride,
am I getting through to you,
The emblem of our nations flag,
the source of ridicule.
What happened to our Empire
when the world whistled our tune
rally to our call to arms
and keep your country true.
England....don't lose the fight
England....regain the fire.
Take back our nationality
fly the red cross once again.
sybolize our unity and
teach those at number ten
how we can stand together
face the cancer from within
The English want our nation back,
this fight is ours to win.
England....we'll win the fight
England....regain the fire.
