Vocals--Amanda & Daniel McWilliams. A hurricane's center is a relatively calm, clear area usually 20-40 miles across. This pictures God's peace during life's storms.
I began writing this song around ten years ago following a tremendous storm high in the mountains during a camping outing. The devastation from the 2005 hurricane season prompted me to finish the song. Some people misuse the phrase "eye of the storm" to describe destructive experiences in life. In reality the eye of the storm is a peaceful and calm place, from which you can view the storm around you but not be adversely affected. This is a beautiful picture of what it is to be spiritually secure within Jesus Christ, who not only protects and shields from damage, but is the perfect Source of peace and companionship during troubled times.
(Intro Chorus): You lift me up...
and make me stand
on higher ground
though floods cover the land.
You are my shelter from the storm;
You keep me safe, keep me warm;
You will protect me from all harm;
You are the eye within the storm.
Every day, every day, I will say to the Lord;
You are my resting place
and the safe hiding place
where my soul is restored.
I need your presence to lead me
and guide me and keep me
in all of my ways;
so I am approaching
your throne of grace boldly
to help with my needs
in these days.
When all around me troubles swarm,
You are the eye within the storm.
You lift me up, and make me stand
on higher ground, though floods
cover the land.
I wil endure, steadfast and sure,
all of life's storms,
for in you I'm secure.
I will endure, steadfast and sure,
all of life's storms,
for with you - I'm with you -
I'm secure.
