I recently had lunch in a restaurant and on a chalk board was a quote from Einstein: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". Wow, I love that quote and thought it might be a cool challenge to write a philosophical song around it. Here is Expecting A Change. This one wasn't easy.
Expecting A Change
[Verse]
You're walking in circles, can't find the door
Waiting for a change, cause you've been here before
You chase every spark, but the fire burns out
Losing yourself, trying to figure it out
[Verse]
You keep pushing, but you're losing the fight
Caught in the chaos, looking for light
Reaching for something, just out of your grasp
When you think you've got it, it slips through so fast
[Pre-Chorus]
You're living for the moment, but it's always gone
Singing the same old song, over and on
Stuck in the cycle, losing your head
It reminds me what Einstein once said
[Chorus]
Insanity is doing the same old thing
Over and over and over again
Expecting a change, that never kicks in
Stuck in a loop, can't break the spin
Doing the same things, again and again
Expecting a change that never kicks in
Expecting a change that never kicks in
[Verse]
Maybe one day you'll break free from this mess
But for now, it's just your everyday stress
You wait for the spark, it's nowhere to be found
You're spinning in place while the world spins around
[Pre-Chorus]
You're living for the moment, but it's always gone
Singing the same old song, over and on
Stuck in the cycle, losing your head
It reminds me what Einstein once said
[Chorus]
Insanity is doing the same old thing
Over and over and over again
Expecting a change, that never kicks in
Stuck in a loop, can't break the spin
Doing the same things, again and again
Expecting a change that never kicks in
Expecting a change that never kicks in
[Verse]
You're done with the lies, done with the chase
Need to find a way out and make your escape
Change up your routine, break free from the chain
That's the only way to end your pain
[Chorus]
Insanity is doing the same old thing
Over and over and over again
Expecting a change, that never kicks in
Stuck in a loop, can't break the spin
Doing the same things, again and again
Expecting a change that never kicks in
Expecting a change that never kicks in
