Upbeat dark comedy featuring piano, catchy guitar riffs and non-traditional rock and roll chord sequences, regarding a disastrous romance.
This Randy Newman-ish song was inspired by my memories of a couple of very wild girlfriends back in my mid twenties, with alcohol and drug problems. One was particularly bad. As far as she was concerned, no matter how reasonable I was, her abuse was justified retribution for all the bastard men out there mistreating women. Fortunately, I can look back and laugh, having learned from my mistakes.
I had a girlfriend who was out of her mind
But at the time she was all I could find
Times were tough and I was no catch
And her last boyfriend was a total letch
She looked real good when she wasn't drunk
But then she'd get into her crazy funk
One night she threw a knife at me
When I told her no more rent free
Demented Love, a looney love, save me from demented love
I locked her out of my home one night
She yelled and screamed and wanted to fight
She was absolutely insane
And punched her fist through my window pane
She bled all over in my front room
While in the sky was a bright full moon
Then an ambulance took her away
And for some reason I started to pray
Demented love, a looney love, save me from demented love
She kicked me in the gonads twice
But I swear I was always nice
She stole my money and dented my car
Always drinking in the local bar
And so besides our bedroom fling
She was only good for two things
One was that she could sing
And two she never touched my six-string
Demented love, a looney love, save me from demented love
