Bowie in 1976 appearing on SoulTrain was so surreal performing 'Golden Years' which was undeniably a soul track - the year prior saw 'Fame' become his first US#1 and earn his chameleon-like status.
if you weren't listening to Bowie's Young Americans in 1975 then I'm not sure what you were plugged into...Captain and Tennille maybe...or ABBA (not that there's anything wrong with either of those acts!) but one thing's for sure if you didn't own a copy of Young Americans then you were missing out on rock's first white (English) boy taking on R&B/Soul and sounding pretty damn good!
gotta get a rain check on fame
