A throwback to intimate nightclub jazz. I handled vocals, bass, lead, acoustic & electric rhythm guitars, MIDI strings, and the brush/percussion loop. Jeff Kratzman added 2nd strings, MIDI horns, percussion, and handled production. (Thanks, Jeff!)
The lyrical concept -- a statement of unconditional love and commitment -- was initially inspired by the final scene in Chuck (if you know, you know). It subsequently evolved to represent a broader, and at the same time, more personal perspective.
The retro jazz / old standards style seemed an appropriate fit for the mood and the message. It was fun to revisit a music style from my past -- like catching up with an old friend!
You deserve much more than me,
But I'm all I've got to give you.
So, I'll give you everything I can
And do whatever I can do.
If you feel the need to leave
I will sadly let you go,
But if you ever have the need to talk
You can call, I hope you know.
I will always have your back. I will always be here for you.
If you ever find that you are lost
I will come and search for you.
And anytime you're in a bind
I'll be there to pull you through.
Anytime you're feeling down
Maybe sad, a little blue
You won't have to face it all alone
I will come and comfort you.
I will always have your back. I will always be here for you.
While others might just walk away
I will stay right by your side.
The bond we share together
Will stand the test of time.
Wherever you may travel
I hope to be there too.
For you're the one I've always loved,
My journeys end is you.
I will always have your back. I will always be here for you.
