A fast-paced song advocating for a paradigm shift in the Church away from wanting to be like the world to focusing more on being like Christ.
The tune for this song came, once again, from a dream. Around the same time I was in a brief conversation online about a hymn called "Though Strait Be the Way" by Joseph Hart and the proper use of the word 'strait' versus 'straight'.
I built off Hart's hymn to create an original new song to the tune from my dream. Let us always maintain the fire of faith, in the midst of worldly distractions and persecution alike. Hart's hymn can be found here: hymnary.org/text/though_strait_be_the_way

See how quickly we forget
Our souls once ressurect-
-ed, destined for the fire.
Slipping lower, swiftly lower
Flailing without power
Meriting no favor.
Sin's whole cancelled sum.
It's not a small thing!
That which is to come,
Outshines it all.
Sing!
With the worship of voices,
In life, in all choices
We share of His offering:
The gift of our King.
Think!
At what cost He has bought us
The ransom that brought us,
From evil to good
Was His own guiltless blood.
Grieving things we think we're owed,
A life without misfor-
-tune, living our desires.
Slipping lower, swiftly lower,
Proving in the hour
Faith without it's power.
Jealousy of things
That only hurt us,
Zealously, we link
Ourselves to lies.
Sing!
With the brothers and sisters,
And promise and future
We take a new stand for
The life on demand.
Think!
By the way strait and narrow
And danger and arrows
We are what we are
For He's helped us this far.
Spare us the judgment of Laodicea
Remove any idol we've made our Messiah
Lord guard every heart from a lifestyle condemnable
Lukewarm in faith and in love with the temporal
Kindle a fire to reach the unreachable
Spare us the judgment of Laodicea.
Remove any idol we've made our Messiah.
Lord guard every heart from a lifestyle condemnable,
Lukewarm in faith and in love with the temporal.
Kindle a fire to reach the unreachable.
Save us a place at the lamb's banquet table (in the eschatological)
Sin's whole cancelled sum.
It's not a small thing!
That which is to come,
Outshines it all.
(same time as above)
How we belittle the love of our Savior,
Lamenting the boundaries; He calls us with fervor
While here on the earth to be servants and messengers,
Managers of a great Kingdom expenditure,
Quickly forgotten the moment we see His face
Lost in His glory, the hearts of the human race
Worshiping wholly the source of all love and grace
Jesus the Way of God, Truth across time and space
See how quickly we forget
Our souls once ressurect-
-ed, destined for the fire.
Slipping lower, swiftly lower
Flailing without power
Meriting no favor.
Sing!
That in spite our failures
Our Shepherd forever
Will seek and restore
Heal the wounds that we tore
Think!
That the Great Convocation
Defies illustration,
When myriads thrown down
Their unworthy crowns.
Sing!
With the worship of voices,
In life, in all choices
We share of His offering:
The gift of our King.
Think!
At what cost He has bought us
The ransom that brought us,
From evil to good
Was His own guiltless blood.
Still, how quickly we forget...
