A DOVE ON DISTANT OAKS Lord be gracious to me for men are in pursuit they take delight in laying traps before my feet all day long they twist my words they plot to do me harm they scheme behind my back intent to bring me down as for me i am a man of peace searching far and wide for signs of hope though it seems peace is but a dream about as far away from here as a dove in distant oaks oh God have mercy on me for i am in distress my foes have tied the noose that dangles round my neck on no account let them escape in anger foil their plans reach out and rescue me from falling in their hands when i am afraid i will trust in God my Saviour in God whose word i praise whom shall i fear? when i am afraid i will trust in God my Saviour in God whose word i praise what shall i fear? as for me i am a man of peace searching far and wide for signs of hope though it seems peace is but a dream about as far away as a dove in distant oaks about as far away from here as a dove in distant oaks
