Prayer song to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit recognizing how we are called to Love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul and mind (Mk 12:30), the greatest commandment.
Obviously, the Trinity is one of those mysteries that isn’t meant to be understood by us so I am trying to use human terms / professions and concepts to attribute skills / qualities to the Three Persons and still remain biblically sound. I made God the Father an Author, God the Son a Carpenter and God the Holy Spirit a Blacksmith. I then took those human professions and tried to use them to act on us in ways that would ultimately bring us to fulfillment; as an Author, God the Father would write and imprint my soul, God the Son, as a Carpenter could carve and frame my will / mind and God the Holy Spirit would draw out and forge my heart. This is all meant to refer to Mark 12:30 that states:
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.”
This was kind of the overriding concept.
The reference to the Holy Spirit being characterized as a Blacksmith is a little unusual, no doubt but, consider for a moment what happens when the hot iron is pinched between the hammer face and the anvil. It is drawn out and molded much like the clay that Carrie Landry references when he sings “You are the Potter, I am the clay, the work of Your hands. Mold me and fashion me”, in the original song “Abba Father”.
The inspiration for using a blacksmith to represent the Holy Spirit came from my kid’s. They all attended a 3 day, hands-on Blacksmithing workshop. When they were talking about the Blacksmith’s forge and the intense heat, church bells started ringing in my head as I recalled this unfinished song idea on praising the Trinity.
