Another song heavily influenced by Counting Crows
About someone very special from my distant past, which after finishing the song I didn't realize how much residual emotion is still there. And I think that shows in the song, which is probably one of the most emotional songs I ever wrote and sang. At least it feels that way to me.
Lyrics below:
It gets to the point
Where the choices are few
Cause I foolishly wasted them
I'm afraid of the past
I'm afraid it won't last
I'm afraid of the words you never said
So when she tells me
What we had didn't matter
And she doesn't have any regrets
Well the love may fade
Away from our minds
But the heart will never forget
CHORUS:
This is my soul
It dances with yours
Waiting for the music to stop
I wanted it more
From the things that I saw
The feelings I felt and the ones you did not.
Ohhhhh
I remember the times
So few and far between
I could say that I was in love
Flowers of plastic
Diamonds without shine
I never could get you enough
Or get enough of you
Your emotions, your time
I didn't care about the unimportant stuff
So I worked on myself
But by the it was too late
Regret falls like rain from above
CHORUS:
This is my soul
It dances alone
Excuse me, may I have this dance?
And if the answer is no
I'll quite understand
You were never one to give a second chance
Ohhhh....
Bridge:
The heart that once sailed
Afraid it might fail
Sinks like a stone in your wake
So don't you look back
I can't escape from the fact
That I'm no stranger to this heartache
Ohhh A soul alone
Can there me a sadder thing...to see
Ohhh A soul alone
I only asked you to sing...with me
CHORUS:
This is my soul
Still waiting to dance
While yours sweeps over the dance floor
I watch from afar
From a distant star
With no visible means of support
And this is my soul
It dances alone
Will you let me have one more dance?
If the answer is no
I might understand
That life gives you no second chance.
Ohhhh, A Soul Alone
