Long ago in a distant land lived an old man weary with age His days were numbered, so knew this wise old sage In a cave on his mountain top burned a candle night and day His task was to keep it lit and for mankind pray No worldly glory was his lot but his truth rose high above Such is the light of the candle of love Lonely though his task he guarded that candle with his life No-one knew of his deed or lonesome strife Little did they know that if that candle burned out Darkness would rule and mankind would then die out No worldly glory was his lot but his truth rose high above Such is the light of the candle of love So came the time for him to find a successor to guard the flame In vain he walked and talked but no-one came Then he found an orphan boy and said "I was once like you" "If you come with me and listen I'm sure you'll do" "No worldly glory will be your lot but your truth will rise high above" "Such will be the light of your candle of love"
