Slow version of folk song about a young soldier going to fight in World War 1, not knowing if he'll ever get back to marry his sweetheart.
Slow version of folk song about a young soldier going to fight in World War 1, not knowing if he'll ever get back to marry his sweetheart.
It's a co-write with Brian Ralston (aka SelfTort) of Australia, and it's one of my favorite collaborations. Produced by David Pendragon( April 2014)
The other one with Brian is a fast, raucous interpretation, and there's also another version by The Chorley Mashers, a Lancashire Ceilidh band.
many thanks to all.
I’ll miss you all the time my love, but coming home I’ll sing,
I’ll bring you what you want my love, I’ll fetch a wedding ring,
We'll get the horses looking good, with flowers in their manes,
I’ll paint the carriage, make it fine, for driving down the lane.
CHORUS
I’ll give thy lips a kiss my love, maybe two or three,
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
Oh, you’ll want some more from me my love, you’ll want some more from me
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
I’ll bring your mam a cooking pan, shiny bright and new,
And rabbits from the field so she can make a rabbit stew.
I’ll paint the gates while Nancy gathers flowers from the Dale,
And Uncle Jack is up for bringing barrel loads of ale
CHORUS
I’ll give your lips a kiss my love, maybe two or three,
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
Oh, you’ll want some more from me my love, you’ll want some more from me
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
BRIDGE
Old Joe will play the fiddle, and the dancing will begin,
We'll drink to them, they'll drink to us, we'll drink to them again.
The folks'll come from miles away to see our Wedding Day,
I’ll never leave your side my love, I’ll never go away.
CHORUS
I’ll give your lips a kiss my love, maybe two or three,
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
Oh, you’ll want some more from me my love, you’ll want some more from me
When I get back, I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
When I get back I’m hoping that you’ll want some more from me
