The Fall of Jericho
13 Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
14 “Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord[e] have for his servant?”
15 The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
startled I look up
an unexpected visitor
my curiosity aroused
I stop and hesitate
a moment of uncertainty
then pose the question
ally or a spy?
are you for us or against us
on our side or for the foe?
do you extend the hand of friendship or
will your sword strike mortal blow?
we have need of men of valour
who do not fear the sharp edge of the sword
men for whom the quest for truth
has become its own reward
in a flash i see
the truth thats here confronting me
things are always other than they seem
this man's obscure reply
leaves me no uncertainty
i'm standing face to face before a King
who's neither for us nor against us
not on our side nor for the foe
where he's from we'll never fathom
where he goes we cannot know
in the warfare that he's waging
when he stoops to bend the bow
his a fierce and fearsome battle
his a dark satanic foe
mighty warrior
seasoned and experienced
commander of the armies of the Lord
i fall down on my face
take the shoes from off my feet
and worship in the presence of my God
neither for us nor against us
not on our side nor for the foe
where he leads us we will follow
in his footsteps we will go
in the warfare that is raging
as he draws his trusted sword
he will raise the fearful battle cry
to lead the armies of the Lord
