"Burnt Rain" is a return to my original musical instrument, the piano. This song has a much stronger Blues and traditional Rock arrangement.
"Burnt Rain" was another song that started with an exploration of musical themes I had created in my teen years that I had never known how to develop.
I started with what had been an instrumental piece in the key of F# minor and my children said they loved that composition. My daughter had been listening to a lot of Adelle songs and it made me wonder if I could create a blues-rock style song.
The lyrics were difficult at first until I heard the piano melody in the descending scale of what would become the chorus line: "you'll never see the sunshine on your face again". The chorus was therefore the first part of the song to congeal in my mind. The rest of the song developed to support the chorus.
My best innovation was the Outro, a variation of the chorus that initially lacked lyrics. I then had a moment of inspiration in which i realized I could sing the chorus differently and it worked fabulously.
Don Paul Moore once again lent his lead guitar skills to the song and it brought some fantastic energy to the otherwise piano-based song.

The scars from the rain
Are sand in the bed
Sending torrents of doubt
Coursing through her head
Could lighting strike twice?
Could the floods come again?
Will the fire of love relight?
If she ever gets near to him
Pre-Chorus
Oooh Thunder crashes on earth
Sparking fires in her
Oooh she recalls how it burned
She thought her lessons were learned
But every time it pours
Her scorched heart gently implores
Chorus
Burnt Rain
You’ll never see the sunshine on your face again
Until you face him again
I say now Burnt Rain
You never really opened ‘till you
Opened to him
Trust yourself –Do it again
Burnt Rain!
Nothing but ashes now
The smoke lingers, burns her eyes
Not sure if the hope holds out
For freezing rain for burning fires
Pre-Chorus
Oooh Thunder crashes on earth
Sending shivers through her
Oooh she recalls how it burned
Painful lessons not learned
Every time it pours
Her scorched heart loudly implores
Chorus
Burnt Rain
You’ll never see the sunshine on your face again
Until you face him again
I say now Burnt Rain
You never really opened ‘till you
Opened to him
Trust yourself –do it again
Burnt Rain! Burnt Rain!
