Pop Rock, mid-tempo.
After many years inspired mainly by bands from the 80s I thought I would join the 21st century and go for a more contemporary rock song.
It's ironic how in order to do that, key elements are acoustic guitars and hammond organ...neither of which are exactly new inventions (!), hence why I placed this song in the Classic Rock genre.
My inspiration for this one came from bands such as the Stereophonics, nice fat guitar riffs, particularly the one that follows the choruses. I felt it also sounded a bit like later Bryan Adams songs while still retaining the older elements of a good rocking song.
I've also tried hard to work on contrasts in the sections, arrangement-wise. So that different sections do sound definite from one another. I like the feel of the middle 8 and think these changes bring the song to life.
A love can live forever
Burning bright inside the heart
A life is but a moment
It seems over before you start
Now my mind is weak
Although the body is still strong
Now it's got to go forever
Before all the hopes and dreams are gone
I've got to, I've got to I've got to let you know
I've got to, I've got to I've got to try and show
It won't come fast, it won't come slow
But I've got to, I've got to let you go
You're a book best left unopened
Because I cannot reach the end
Every page that I turn over
Puts me back at the beginning again
Always one more chapter left to read
I promise myself one more line
I'll turn a new page in my life
I'll take back what is mine
If anything that you should ever see
Brings your mind back home to me
Think of me before you start to cry
Because as you sit in your far away place
I can't help but look and see your face
It hurts but I've tried everything that I could try
