THIS COMPOSITION WAS WRITTEN BY W.F. MCBETH IN 1977 AND COMMISSIONED BY THE ALL-JAPAN BAND ASSOCIATION. THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS PIECE IS TAKEN FROM THE MELODY 'SAKURA' WHICH MEANS CHERRY BLOSSOM. PERFORMED BY THE TEXAS TECH UNIV CONCERT BAND IN 1980
William Francis McBeth (b. 1933) is Professor of Music, Resident Composer and Chairman of the Theory-Composition Department at Ouachita University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He has received professional training at Hardin-Simmons University, University of Texas, and the Eastman School of Music. He is Conductor Emeritus of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and was appointed Composer Laureate of Arkansas in 1975. He has studied with numerous other composers, including Clifton Williams and Howard Hanson. McBeth has received numerous awards for his works for media, choral, chamber, orchestra, and band.
