A kids song about Forgiveness and Unforgiveness - slightly bluegrass, lightly folk. Don't stick your friend in jail, forgive him!
Written for an album for kids. This song is about unforgiveness. When a friend asks for your forgiveness, and you refuse to give it, it's like locking them in a jail cell and refusing to let them out.
Yet God tells us to forgive others who 'trespass against us' - and if we don't, He won't forgive US! That's a pretty strong encouragement to forgive those who have sinned against you.
Seems every day or two
I do something that bothers you
No matter how I try
Nothing I do will make it right!
Why won't you forgive me when I ask you?
What'll it take to make it up to you!?
Chorus:
I said I'm sorry, but you won't forgive me!
You locked me in this cell,
And threw away the key!
Now I'm stuck here in jail
'Cause no one will post my bail
Friend, don't play "Cops and Robbers"
Don't play "Cops and Robbers" with me!
If you want God to forgive
All of those evil things you did
Better forgive me too!
Don't you know God is watching you?
If you don't, you'll never feel good inside!
Put up that gun,
Let's go have fun
Swallow that pride!
Chorus:
