Story behind the song
I have several friends who have children that are now adults and when they are around my kids (presently ages 6 and 4), they tell me almost without fail to enjoy being a dad when the kids are this age. These are the good times - notice them.
Lyrics
Funny how time moves slow as decades pass on by We're young, we're old, we're fast, we're slow in the Blinking of an eye. And sitting here I'd like to say I wouldn't change a thing But that's not true, and I don't lie, And I'm too old to begin. If you want to know my one regret, I'll tell you how it is I wish I could have stopped time When you were little kids. These are the good times, notice them, I said back even then And I was right and I was young like I never will be again. And you were both so small back then I could hold you in my arms And nothing in the world could touch you Or ever do you harm. But time does not stop just so a man can hug his kids And I still love you and want to protect you Just like I always did. But you are grown and I am old and there's not much I can do But remember when we were together and I was there for you.
