A New Years Resolution Revolution
Written around New Years, to express what I felt about the neverending cycle of destruction we experience in making these, only to crash and burn on them within just 30 days.
I feel it's more important to surrender the areas and kingdoms of our lives to the Lord and Master, and let Him guide us and empower us to keep these if it's His will.
Revolution Day
(C)2008 Christopher M Solaas
Isn't it strange how every year
Starts and ends the same
With a New Year's Resolution
That things are going to change?
Gonna shed a few pounds,
Put the cigarettes down,
Read my bible every dawn.
But by the time the month is past,
Those empty promises are gone.
What made me think that I could keep them
When I really didn't care?
I set my own self up for failure
When my heart just isn't there.
So while we kiss the old year out
And we kiss the new year in
I'm going to start a Revolution
If you want, you can join in.
Chorus:
It's a new years Revolution
To make no more resolutions
For those year-long promises
Don't seem to last for 30 days
So instead I'll take it day-by-day
Allow the Lord to have His way.
Surrender all my lands to Him
On Revolution Day.
Gonna sign the titles over
Gonna wave that big white flag
'Cause the guy who sat upon my throne
Was really just a drag!
Surrender the town, nail the drawbridge down
Give the Lord the Kingdom Key
Let Him into every room
They do not belong to me.
What made me think that I could change
When I'm still upon the throne?
I set my own self up for failure
When I do this on my own
So while we kiss the old year out
And we kiss the new year in
I'm going to start a Revolution
if you want, you can join in.
Chorus:
It's a new years Revolution
Give the Lord those resolutions
If He wants to, He can keep them,
And I won't get in the way.
So instead I'll take it day-by-day
Allow the Lord to have His way.
Surrender all my lands to Him
On Revolution Day.
